A bolschip or boltjalk is a type of fishing vessel from the former Zuiderzee and belongs to the family of round and flat-bottomed ships. The name bol or bolle (old Dutch) most likely comes from the former island of Urk where all ships with a round head were called that. In Friesland these round ships were called barges.

The 'Bons' is actually a small 'schokker' with rounded cheeks, the mast of which is a little further back and the stem is slightly less slanted than the shocker. Many ships that sailed the former Zuiderzee look alike. Changes were made for each fishing village or area and their own names were used.

Togenaer 600px

The botter is an old Dutch type of fishing vessel with a flat to slightly V-shaped surface. Botters mainly fished in the former Zuiderzee, but were also used for coastal fishing in the North Sea. The type originated in the 2nd half of the 18th century. There is a demonstrable relationship with the older touring barge and the Zeeuws Waterschip.

Grundel 600px

The grundel is a Dutch type of flat-bottomed (sailing ship). They are graceful, slender ships, with a flat transom and originally a sprit rig. Initially only one sideboard was carried, which could change sides. The fisherman's version had a bun, but the "dry" one was completely open with a short bow in front of the mast.

Punter 600px

Punter is the collective name for small open flat-bottomed boats that have been developed in the rivers, deltas and peat areas of the Netherlands. They are characterized by an almost flat, lance-shaped bottom, straight, strongly sloping (falling) stems and angular frames. Punters are among the oldest surviving ships: paintings and deeds from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries provide evidence for the existence of the current shape and name. Nowadays they are mainly found in Overijssel.

The Slabbert (or Slabber) is probably a fifteenth century herring fishing vessel. It probably referred to a small type of tube, because the 'Slabber(t)' was also called a slap tube. 'Slabbert' were fresh (green) Zuiderzee herrings.

The togenaer (togenaar) is a sixteenth to eighteenth century fishing vessel with a bun for trawling on the Zuiderzee and the IJ between Amsterdam and the dunes. They are rigged with a spritsail, with a broad jib and have fairly wide centreboards.
